Would you blockade a port or refinery?

i totally agree kev that it is getting to the point where something needs to be done to show our
disapproval of the rising cost but i think this needs to be taken to the next level in terms of co-ordination
and public participation , it needs to be nationwide ,organised and peaceful .which will have more chance of greater
numbers taking part. basicly the goverment have to have a visual idea of how many voters they are about to lose .without a major disrution to the transport network . theres nothing like the threat of being made redundant to focus the mind . but if they remove 5p of duty its still too bloody dear :roll:

There is no point at all in doing stuff like this on a very local token level. It acheives bugger all and gets you absolutely nowhere.

The only way to get the governmemnt to take note is to do is as Jason has already said, and that is on a national scale. If you can't amass the masses there is no point.

I would definately take part in a Demonstration/Blockade whatever, no problem at all, but it's got to be part of countrywide action and then i would feel like my actions were going to have some effect.

UKGOV can afford to drop fuel duty by 12-15ppl maybe up to 20ppl, without raising taxes elsewhere, bearing in mind how much they tax oil companies/petrol refineries in the UK anyway. All the extra windfall revenue currently generated from today's sky high oil prices is making UKGOV a pretty penny however, they won't reduce fuel duty until the nation stands up together and speaks with one very pissed off voice!!

thanks for you replys we are not planing on doing it on a "token level" we are contacting the national rags and getting, as many car forums, haulage firms etc on board to try and make this as national as possible and at least try and express what every one is thinking but not willing to do anything about it apart from moan quitely to them selfs, thats just my 2p worth rant over :-D

I agree that something needs to happen but I am not sure if a blockade is the way to do it as I believe this is now illegal as is said in the SXOC thread.

I have heard of an idea that is being batted around. If all the BP and Esso garages are boycotted for say a month as these are the two largest companies, then they will be forced to lower their prices and then once that happens the others will have to follow suit or in turn they will not get the buisiness. If this does not have the desired effect then add another two such as Shell and Texaco until something is done about the prices.

This serves two purposes. One is that people can still get to work etc by using the other stations to get fuel. Two is that they cannot prosecute people for not using these garages as there is no way of saying who is boycotting them.
