August trip now on, Happy days!!!

After years of wanting to go, I am finally going to the glorious 'Ring this August.
There's four of us planned to go, with a range of BM's to choose from:
My old girl an
E34 1994 525 manual
E30 trackday 318
E36 M3 (that may be bought by 2 of the guys for us to use on the trip, and sold on again afterwards)
E46 330ci manual
E36 318 Mtec touring
E39 530 manual
and lastly a 120d!
We all are quite badly bitten by the bavarian bug as you can see.
We'll be taking 2 cars between us, and staying from the Friday till Sunday evening.
Aside from knowing when we are going, and that we'll be using the Euro
train thing, we have yet to decide on where we'll stay, etc, but anyone with experience of having done it, I'd appreciate their input. (I currently favour the hotel on the circuit itself, chance to soak up the atmosphere when I am not struggling to keep the car on the grey stuff.) I can't tell you how much time I am wasting on Youtube with bloody 'Ring video's!!!

for atmosphere, I`d suggest one of the smaller establishments nearer the ring has a better atmosphere. If you mean the Dorint, its jsut a bit hotel, the smaller ones, i`ve found usually have a bar and are full or like minded enthusiasts.

What are the dates you are there? I`ll be there, will happily take you for a few laps if you fancy seeing it from the passenger seat.

Dear Brother

nice to see you taking the plunge. I'm sure you and the guys will have an amazing time. I'd wholeheartedly agree with Nige about the hotels. If you want to mooch around perving at cars and the circuit there are loads of places to do it apart from a hotel balcony.

The Ringhaus is very good but like I mentioned via PM I think from now on in, I'll be staying at Kens place, T13 (see Nurburgmostorsport thread) Good prices, great facilities and the back up should anything go wrong :o First rate. It does help that he's such a nice bloke too.

The train from Folkestone is a doddle. Not the cheapest way to get to the continent but about as easy as it gets if you want to take your car. That leaves a 290 mile drive once your in France to get to the Ring.

Just a little safety message for you and your fellow Ringers. They drive on the right hand side mate. Helpful eh? :)

@Nige,
Arrive on the 1st (Friday) leave on the 3rd (Sunday). If that fits in with you, that'd be great thanks.
@Stuart,
thanks for the tip, I'm sure I would have noticed (You forget I spend half my time on the other side of the road anyway)
By atmosphere, I meant being able to watch the events and comings and going from the hotel. Its mentioned on Ben Lovejoys site, and can be found here http://www.hotel-an-der-nordschleife.de/
Unless I've read Kens web site wrong, it looks like they are quite different from the above. Would you still be able to get the 'Ring atmosphere?
Thanks for the advice, i'll look into what you've said.

ah, you dont mean the dorint !!

right, personally, and its only my thoughts, I`d look to stay in Nurburg, if you are after `atmosphere`, I`d look at the ringhaus, just up from the main carpark, the burgstube is a bit further away, but martin is very friendly. You can always stay at http://www.pistenklause.com/en/home/

You`ve heard of `steak on a stone` thats at the `pk`, well this is the same building, just their hotel part. good atmosphere there and in the restaurant below.

I`m there on those dates, so will take you out for some laps with pleasure :thumb: . Even if you go with someone else, for a first timer, going with someone who goes at a reasonable speed will just blow you away. I`m not the fastest there, but if you have no idea where the circuit goes, it will seem plenty quick enough :-D

@Nige,
I've emailed them for prices. Thanks very much for your advice, i'll get in touch nearer the time with my contact number. I'd love to come out as a passenger, the more experience I get from the trip the better. I appreciate the offer, I am counting the weeks already. :grin:

You will have a ball Rob and if you get a chance to go out with a lp or two with Nige you will not be disappointed. Only slightly slower than the ring taxi but much more fun and still an 8 min something lap :thumb:

8 mins ? :o
It'll be better than the Tower of Terror! Bring it on......only about 3 1/2 months to go!

That was the 'something' :D

Still with the new power/handling improvements .... a low 8 is a possibility for you and it is quicker than I did it (by 0.5 seconds iirc) ;)
