Help needed you Scooby anoraks lol.
A guy wants to part ex his Scooby WRX Wagon for my M3. He has only had it 2 weeks and recon he is selling as the insurance is too high as he is only 23. What i can't figure out is why he did not get a quote on the Scoob before he bought it and why he wants an M3 which also has very expensive insurance premiums (mine is more than my Skyline) due to the sort of people they attract as buyers and joyriders.
Here is the Pistonhead advert for the car where he states he is after a quick cash sale or a 300ZX (not an M3)
http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/369085.htm
Thing is his Wagon does look very clean and reasonably priced.
Something doesn't seem right to me like the car has an engine fault or something.
What do you think?

Pembroke,
Not exactly local
If he wants to drive to mine is it worth a look?

it looks okay to me but I have never had a classic - perhaps Gerry would be a better bet for advice.

Thanks,
I am sure Gerry will be along soon.
It may look clean, but the early engines have a replutation for being fragile don't they?

Hi, looks like a clean low milage(if its correct) car.
Thing on the 96-98 models to watch for is piston slap, otherwise the engines if looked after should be fine. its the MY99-00 STI engines that have a habit of expring. This is a WRX so if its still on the original ECU should be safe.
Other than that, just look out for the normal things, smokey, rattles etc.

i reckon you should stick with the BMW Eddy, also the mileage seems to jump a thousand in the desription,
also he says it was one UK owner yet he has had the car two weeks, how did he work that out ? seen as the tax runs out in april suggests it has been here more than 2 weeks, i dunno. i could just be too paranoid

Don't forget...02 engines can expire too
For a 97 car 55K miles sounds pretty damn low as in 5.5K miles per year. In my experience wagons are purchased to do some mileage in so it does sound a bit low.
It does look in nice condition though if it's straight up with genuine mileage and if it has no nasty engine/gearbox gremnlins it should be worth a punt at

It's not going to get you too excited Eddy. It's a fairly standard WRX MY97 by the look of it. TD04 turbo that's all low down and runs out of puff early.
Nothing special so price is OKish although STis can be had for similar money, ask TK.
Depends what you want really, if you're looking to sell on, I doubt you'll get much more for it.
M3's better :-D
IMO

BTW it was MY98s that have a rep for piston slap.
Could be worth asking which specialist has checked it over.
