autotrader - scams ?

Post by duncan »

this has to be a scam...

I put Rachel's car on Autotrader and have had 2 contact emails from people saying effectively they want to buy it without seeing it and will get the shipper to come and get it after they have paid me and money cleared in my bank.

Sounds bloody perfect but obviously cant be.

The latest one has even offered more than the asking price... wtf !!

Anyway have emailed him back to say that the price has gone up to

It's a well documented scam, and they end up paying by Bankers draft.

A few days after they collect your car having paid with what you think is a genuine bankers draft (which is as good as money) from their own bank, it turns out to be stolen or counterfeit.

When we sold my partners Celica a couple of years ago we insisted the money be transferred to our account or the buyer pick the car up and pay by cash on the day. He payed by cash!! After so many scams involving dodgy bankers drafts i have made it a point of not accepting a bankers draft. Cash or money transfer works for me!!

Tell them to bugger off and report them!! :o
Buggers cancelled my op just a couple of days before it was due. Inconsiderate barstewards!!

Waiting now for another execution date!!:headhack:

One of them wanted to get a company to come pick it up and take it to the port to be shipped out the the states.

Now, call me suspicious, but it is a Fiat Punto ffs :D ( a very nice one but nothing that special that you would go to that lengths for it )

Where is the catch ?

I say go with ScoobieWRX and insist on cash,

Even with Direct bank transfer they can still get it back i believe as they can claim fraud (dont quote me on that though things have changed since i worked in a bank)
