hmm I'm hoping this is a boost leak

a few days ago i fitted a FMIC, it went ok, and have been driving it for a while with no problems, today i went out and had to overtake someone and i hit fuel cut (the AVC-r said i t had peaked at 1.16bar...i thought it was set to 1bar max ) it had never gone over 1bar in the past
anyway all was ok, started to take it easy just in case then at a junction i had to pull out quickly again i got fuel cut (or at least i thought it was fuel cut) now as soon as it goes into positive boost it judders and wont accelerate and feels like its firing on 3 cylinders there "appears" to be soot/black smoke coming out the exhaust
just giving the pipes at least the ones i can get to a check over for lose clips ec but everything seems fine :?
so firstly assuming the AVC-r is set to 1bar any idea's why its creeping up
and secondly does it sounds like i have a boost leak?

in all honestly, it sounds like you need to turn the gain down on your boost controller. quite often you will boost higher with a FMIC than with a TMIC because they are just so much better at their job.
if it was a boost leak your car would be quite sluggish, sound like an aerosol can on boost and generally be a bit crap.
tweak your ebc
as for the black smoke, it sounds like one of the cylinder isnt firing, check spark plugs, HT leads, dizzle cap, but first just check the leads are fitted snugly.

I had a similar problem with my evo it kept over boosting and what seemed to be a fuel cut with black smoke out of the exhaust. It turned out that i did have a boost leak and my boost actuator was shaged had that sorted and its been fine ever since hope that helps

its appears to be a boost leak :phew: the front (it would have to be the most awkward one too) 90 degree samco had popped off slightly, i couldnt see it with the bumper on, so I've now removed it and its plain to see, thanks for everyone's replies
