I cant see the vid. But do they do stabilizers for moto x bikes? :-D. From my knowledge of any off-road riding is its one of the most physical sports there is. Thats why so many of the moto gp guys do it for exercise. You are a bit of a lump mate. :$ speedway is more for you. 8)
I used to do it but not competetively, i had a KX125 which i stripped down and rebuilt with a forged piston and rod and it went like shit!!!
It is very very hard to get fast and get good at but very enjoyable, if you would like to have a go then they do try out days down at wildtracks at newmarket, i did one of these got hooked and bought my own bike and trailer and went down a lot to the track at Besthorpe.
They have test days at the track down the road (Besthorpe) so I may well pop down there and have a look.
Regarding my fitness, that is a good point. I know I need to do something and I may as well have a laughing doing it. I'm really not worried about being competitive but the idea of having a bike that I can whazz around the 100 odd acres of land that surround my house and getting some excercise into the mix appeal.
As you're the only one that's done it Ian, what sort of costs where involved ( I know about the track fees etc)
How long have you been riding?.......... Since i was three still got my italjet 50
Where do you practice? ......Near March at Washbrooke Farm its only a practice track every sat due to noise restriction they race on sun at chatteris its a bit of a trek for you but ideal as they have session related to experience although the tittle nippers on there 50's and 80's are some of the quickest in each class
What sort of running costs do you experience? ............2 stroke oil, petrol tyres, chains n sprockets all normal stuff if you only ride for fun not too much unless you fall off a lot they all seem pretty robust all though suspension parts do take an obvious hammering its a different matter if ya race engine rebuild every few meets
Had a few bikes my last couple being a CR250 and a YZF426 don't know what your looking for but would suggest something like a CRF450 due to it amount of torque!!
Great sport but if you cant detach your brain from your wrist your never going to be quick!!!
" Uh Betty you should of seen this car in Ely today!! it had stickers and stripes
all over it, and when it started up, the noise!!!, I could feel my teeth rattling!!!"
Stu i would say you would be better getting an enduro style bike to begin with, i got a DR250 after i sold my MX KX250 as it was road legal i did not have to worry about towing the bike everywhere.
You could just ride it down to the track and come home via the farm lanes!! 8)
They are not as focussed as a MX bike but they are a bit more practical, you should have got Daves KTM.
If you have acess to all the land around your home you are very lucky, just make sure you get a quiet one as the lairy 2 strokes are very noisy!!
The 4strokes are not so bad if you have a sensible pipe.
As for costs its hard to say but you could pick a half decent bike up for about
What a surprise to see this subject raised on here. I can unquestionably comment and advise on this subject. At the age of 14 i was priveledged enough to be sponsored by Suzuki until moving to Yamaha at 18 until an accident on the road forced me to cease racing at 23. My advice to anyone wanting to try this i suggest they either purchase a cheap m/x bike and have a few days finding their way around either Besthorpe or Chippenham or attending a few days at a m/x school for beginners . Alternativly you can purchase a road legal enduro if licenced to do so and attend a few organised enduros after which you will have an idea if you are up for progressing to the next level. if any of this does not make sense The ""Budman"" is to blame for corrupting me with alcohol

I did one of the beginner days at Besthorpe at the start of the summer and loved it. They had a variety of bikes so you could try everything. I really lied the 2 strokes, but you could try them all if you were thinking of investing.
I got seriously hooked in that 1 day and booked another, but then my lung collapsed! almost three months later and I have only been given the all clear to get back on my roadbike again last week so have missed all the trackdays and a chance to try motocross some more. A friend at work races and has offered another trip to besthopre with a couple of his race preped 250s to give it a real go.
How about a big-power clup event at Besthopre? The day I tried was a club event so we got a group discount,
