Always had a bad opinion of M3s because of the people that drive them over here (yourself obviously excuded!!),. Went out in one at the Ring (probably the same shape as yours)...christ that was fast....plus it was standard apart from decat.
There wasnt any issues with the brakes on the lap I had as passenger plus I did ask if the brakes were an issue and was told 'No'.
Do you need to uprate them ?

A pad change should be enough to make them work in any conditions Martin.
Have a peek at the either Mintex or PF depending on the use that the M3 will be getting. As Gareth said, they should be good enough out of the box for road driving and with the normal attention to pads, fluid and hoses will cope with mose things you are able to throw at it.

Have a chat with Simon (slarty bartfast) he's well in to his old M3 and now his CSL, he tracks them and does loads of track days etc and if he can't help you I don't think anyone can.

M3 standard brakes are fine for the road and in most cases (with up rated pads/hoses) are also ok on track unless you are really hard on them.
I did 3 20 minute sessions at Snetterton yesterday in the CSL on standard brakes/pads and she was fine.
APs would be the best option but at nearly 2k a very expensive one.
Look here
http://www.bm3w.co.uk/ubbthreads/postli ... oard=UBB10 loads of information.
I eventually want to change my track car for an E36 M3 and will probably go for the APs from the get go.

You could try a bit of research and see if 5 or 7 series calipers and discs fit. Many parts are interchangeable. I think the M3 brakes are pretty good as standard. I got some uprated discs, drilled and grooved and some padgid fast road pads for my 5 series and they work well.
