Dead E30 - continued

Wake up this morning, and I'm thinking, it has to be the ECU if we've got no voltage into the coil.

Drive down to John's and rob his pile of ECUs - none match. Arse. He's just starting work on a 325iS cambelt. DIve into it and get an ECU that at least has the same connector. Jimmy has arrived at 9am today and is changing the oil on the Green M3.

Try the new ECU - nothing. I download and print out an electrical troubleshooting guide. We start trying stuff from there - bridging the fuel relay etc. I do a full connectivity check on the ECU ribbon cable I thought I'd injured the previous day, taking it apart. Nothing. Nothing Nothing Nothing.

I phone my local BMW specialist - they can't help, but one of the old boys in the workshop mutters something about 'Ooh, there was always something dead simple that killed them stone dead - a relay or something'. Hmm. NOt very helpful.

So, I google - no help at all oddly.

Anyway, back in the workshop, we start wiggling stuff. Finally, give up and phone Neil to bring his E30 over so we can rob relays etc. He suggests we try taking them from the project E24 635CSi, as it's only 2 feet away. :)

So, we do. First relay - nothing. Second relay - nothing. Third relay - VRRRROOOOOOOOMN!!!!!!!!!!! :P :P :P

Fuel Pump Relay. Bloody thing. :x

So many red herrings it was untrue - I'd had the ECU dangling out, I'd stressed some wires in it, I'd just washed it. And in the space of 20 minutes of it running, it was completely dead.

Anyway, we're back on for Snetterton - see you all there!!!

Happy James. :-D :-D

Brilliant news James :thumb: Onwards and upwards Sir

Certainly one advantage of having readily available car parts. Try doing that with a GTR :o
