Help required - undoing a hub nut

Post by Gareth_evo5 »

Hi All,

I'm in need of some assistance. My partners KA needs the driveshaft changed, the car has been involved in a smash and whoever put it back together (stan and Olly motors by the looks of it), have tighened the hub nut to an inch of it's life. I've already broken my 1/2inch power bar trying to get it off and it still hasn't budged.

I'm in littleport (just north of Ely), so ideally someone local would be ideal,

Cheers,
Gareth.

Are you able to drive it Gareth? If you can get it to my house I am sure I can get it free for ya ;-)

I am just south of Ely, drop me a PM if any use and I will arrange a time and give you my address.

A bit of wd40 and a long extension bar on a ratchet handle should do it.

I had a 3 foot extension tude on the end of my 400mm 1/2 drive stanley breaker bar, so total length about 4ft, and my 85kg bouncing on the end of it, the 1/2inch square drive piece broke off the end of the bar.

Being this tight, WD40 wouldn't penetrate the thread, this is TIGHT!!

Lee, Tony has offered his help, so hopefully this will sort it out. I have just ordered myself a 600mm britool 1/2inch breaker bar as a replacement, so that should have a better chance, but ideally the 3/4 drive would be the best solution. Do you have a 32mm socket??

Gareth.

No it was a Stanley branded item, not the best in the world, but I've given it plenty of work in the past and hadn't failed me until this b*

What you need is a fat git like me standing on your new one. Hasn`t got a sneaky left handed thread on it has it?

Here's my handy hint. Take a run up and kick it several times. You need to shock the nut to crack it off :)
