Hello Mrs Russ here,
Russ asked me to read the thread as this is something we have been talking about at home. The one thing no-one on here has mentioned is the reason this protest began in the first place, and that is Nick Clegg's signing of the pledge not to increase the fees for further education. He used this along with many other hopeful politicians in the run up to elections to gain the votes of the new generation of voters who where dissilusioned by the Labour government. He has turned his back on the poeple he used to get the votes.
I don't agree with the level of violence and shamful behaviour of some of the students (or thugs) but I do think that it shows that the feeling of distrust of this govenment runs deep.
We need to get out of the recession and times are going to be hard, the services that are being taken away from the poor and the needy, the vulnerable and the young is a real worry to me as a Mum and a worker. Employers need to be looking to the future but in the public sector it is now a case of every man / woman for himself. It's time to bring back aprenticeships (sp?) and maybe even a return to YTS or similar other wise the next generation whether they want to work or not are not going to have any jobs to go to unless they move to India or China.
When I left school (1987 - I know I don't look old enough:-) university was not even an option for me, a. I was too thick, b. I wanted to earn some money. I did go to college for a year and had 1 whole week of not having a job.

Since then I have been made redundant 3 times but have NEVER been more than 3 days without work. Why? becuase I have been raised by good honest, hard working parents. For those of you who know my Dad would understand. I don't think that I have a right to anything and I truly believe that as a nation we have encourage workshy, lazy slobs who have had it too easy for to long and can get anything they want and pay for it later.
I could rant on for hours but I won't bore you anymore.
Emma

Good points raised there.
Not to be too "doom and gloom", I fear the troublemakers will do this more and more now, and the hype will attract more idiots to the cause. While the country drags itself back to its knees, there's going to be plenty to moan about, but it's never been the young peoples problems before, only us poor buggers who pay utility bills, council tax, petrol........

Just picking up on a point mrs Russ raised regarding Nick Clegg,it almost strikes me that all was not well once they had all the facts infront of them once they where in .I am definiatly not making excuses for them but it looks like they where selling a car they had bought over the phone which needed a bit of" fettling" but when they took delivery of the car they had been selling blind on someone else's creative desciption it was a total shitter ,impossible to resell at the price they had been touting it around at . Not that we will ever know :seeya:

Well, if you owe her enough in pocket money to pay for her college fees, she may have a point! ;)
