My laptops died HELP

My laptop quit on me not so long back i found my toshiba original disk. It gave me a re-boot option where it wipes everything and goes back to original default settings. now it works just fine. just as well because i dont know anything about computers.

well, I went to show someone at work who knows a thing or two about computers and guess what I turned it on and it worked perfectly. What an arse! Typical isn`t it. I have learnt my lesson though, I`m going to transfer everything accross to my son`s PC and buy a Zip drive to save all the info on.

A quick suggestion - rather than install a network card - why don't you get an external hard drive with a USB connection - they are as cheap as chips right now - then you can backup both your laptop and your sons PC - and restore them to any PC with a USB connection (most these days).

You said you were sharing the same internet router for BB access ? ...

If so you should be able to share data between the machines. How is your Broadband connected to your machine.

If that's the case Ben why not dispense with network cards and go for a wireless set up with a wireless router as the hub/gateway out on BB and wireless pcmia cards in the connected PCs?

Broadband is connected by USB from my Laptop and ethernet via my sons PC.

This is what I was getting at with a Zip drive, is that not the same thing?

Boxy - they are close - but the definition of: (for the analy technical like me :oops: ) - I suspect you meant the same thing

Zip drive
Portable disk drive manufactured by or under license from Iomega. Zip drives can store 100 megabytes (MB) or 250 MB on each disk

portable hard drive
A disk drive that is plugged into an external port on a computer such as USB or FireWire. Typically used for backup, but also as secondary storage, such units rival internal drives in capacity. For laptops, the PC Card slot may be used to connect a cable to a full-size drive, or the hard disk may be contained entirely inside the PC Card.
