Time Attack is rapidly becoming out of the reach for for your average 'joe bloggs'. A few of the time attack cars are on display at the autosport show and i feel that this is the clientale that they are now targeting.
I feel the clear link/steps from a quick street car through to a track car, time attack club car and on to pro class cars is now lost. This season will see alot more race prepped cars entering in club class. The mini's for example, great cars and total dedication from the owners but are they what club class was about. If they can afford to do it and keep it within the regs then fair play to them but it just means that it is going to harder and harder to bring new blood into the series.
I don't want to criticise the series; I like the principles of it and think that it has done well to prosper, attracting great crowds and providing a high level of entertainment. For me though, no different to the drifting moving away from a competitive series to demo runs, I think TA is moving away from its origins. If it will be down to the commercially backed teams to compete for lap times, then it will squeeze teams or individuals with lower budgets out. The only genuinely competitive race events are one make ones or strictly capped in terms of investment or spec.
I will watch and observe how the series rolls out. I wonder of you could ever get reliable, unbiased data on the amount invested compared to lap times.
stu i said to paul not long ago that time attack is heading in the direction of truck racing used to be when anyone could enter as it was a cheep form of motorsport like time attack used to be but then politics got involved into it and the motorsport enthusiast got pushed out of the seen.
