Yeah Garys car went into the side, pretty serious damage. Really feel for you Gary, lots of support on FDUK for you.

Looks like there is a petition about Santa Pod and the surface not being prepared properly

Appalling really..

All fingers seem to be pointing towards the duty of care by the organisers at Santa pod, bad track surface, cars covered in mud etc running in-between the KHS drag and not prepping the tarmac properly at all.

Sounds pretty appalling really and from the various forums i have read, this is something that must be addressed rapidly as it will tarnish the 'Pod's' reputation.

In motorsport especially drag racing, track safety and conditions of the circuit are paramount, if its drity, and it take 40 mins to clean and sweep, so what. We have to do it all the time. Should be no different anywhere else, especially as there were MSA officials there too.

Saturday was a mare with all the rain but we kind of guessed that this would happen after looking at the forecast before we left. Saturday morning met up at the normal place in Ipswich, Mark with the Skyline, Gary with the RX and Martin and Matt with a newly purchased Sierra.
This was the first run of the season for all three and after a lambda problem on Garys was sorted on the Saturday all were ready to go on the Sunday.
Started Sunday with the normal fry up out of the back of the Dodge and we were all keen to get cracking and that's where things started to go adrift, first round was an hour and a half late starting and it was a fight to get through with hundreds of RWYB's clogging up the fire up lane. 4 cars crashed at 3/4 track onwards and so on and so on.
I love going to the Pod with with my mates and having the usual piss takes but this weekend seemed different, everyone seemed stressed due to lack of information on the day and poor track conditions and it seemed to take the edge off a normally good weekend
Hopefully the Pod will take the criticism on the chin and take steps to make sure this kind of day doesn't happen again. This of course is too late to help Gary and the others who have been left with bent cars.
Anyway, just a couple of pics of the day for your perusal

When I read about the accident that both Gary and John Bradshaw had, I was gutted. The last time I saw Gary was at the Pod last year, when he set his PB. His face when he leapt out that car, after all of the upsets and heartbreak, that look of delight and relief was wonderful to behold. I felt privileged to be there shaking hands with people like Gary, Mark and the late Tweenie Rob. It was a great, great day.

For Gary to have aggro like this at the first proper event is, as you say, a nightmare. I understand that there were other issues with the day too, but maybe that's best left at that. I am pretty useless with cars (as you know) but I'd be happy to do any amount of donkey work or running around etc to help Gary get back racing. I don't have his mobile number ( I think) or I'd ring but, genuinely, I'm happy to help him if he needs it.

Thanks for the update Fil, that Sierra looks bloody brutal. What times did it put in? I'll have to get my arse down to the next event.

I'm just lost for words really. What an applauling piece of organisation, it's just lazyness and unfortunaltley it's damaged a couple of top end dragsters.

Mark and I went to Worcester with Martin and Matt to have a look at the Sierra a couple of weeks ago and came away with it. It runs a Ford 460 big block with a C6 gearbox and is set up for 10.5 passes.
The car has been down the track in the 7's with a different powerhouse but has been set up for fun and reliability at the moment
I have to take my hat off to both the guys as they had never driven a car at Santa Pod before and never driven a pro street. The day was just for shakedowns and to get the feel of the car, had a couple of small issues with over fuelling and the temprature but I think I can say they are definately hooked
The fastest it went on the day was 13.7 at 103mph but one step at a time :coolgleamA:

Absolutely gutted to hear what happened to the guys. I think the pod will have to do something about the track prep situation unless they will lose all the "serious" guys and the big events.

Good luck with the rebuilds guys.
I may be getting older but I REFUSE to grow up :D
