Should you clay bar that often thought it was more of a yearly thing as it must be cutting the paint back each time :?:

Probably ... it does magically cut through all the crap that get's on your car ... so I guess I must be making the paint thinner ...

I'm not bothered as I will respray the car in the near future .. if I don't sell it ... so far i've not seen any adverse effects.

Clay bar does not remove any paint at all, well not the grades available over the counter (halfrauds etc), I normally recommend claying a car twice a year, more if car is used/kept in areas where abnormal airborne fall out occurs.

Work an area approximately 18" square, spray the lube over the area, using light finger pressure to move the clay over the area, you should feel or even hear the clay passing over contamination, pulling it off the paint. When its all removed the clay will glide like a hand on silk ;)

A few tips, cut the clay bar into 3 or 4 bits, this allows for mistakes by dropping it without ruining the full bar in one hit. fold the bar into itself at least once every panel. Never clay without lube, you can never have too much lube. If you are taking tar spots off the paintwork with clay, DON'T, use a proper tar remover. Tar will clog the clay bar and will also inflict its own marrings, remove the tar first then clay. Keep unused clay in a sealed container, it can and will dry out, this also stops it getting contaminated. After the clay has been used on paint it can be classed as paint dead, keep it for glass (yes windows can and do need claying) after glass its ready for the wheels, and finally the bin, however if it looks like its full of dirt spots bin it right away.

I cant see me polishing that kind of stuff to be honest, but it will get a good clay bar and wax on Saturday.

I didnt go for the Colinite 915 or whatever it was in the end - something inside me said ... 'how much ???' so got some banana smelly Chemical Guys stuff that Gary uses I think. Apply with the fingers job .... mmmmm :D

Thanks for the tips Gary

Once a year? I clay my car every time I wash it, about twice a month. I obviously have too much time on my hands.
It's the only thing that gets the flies off!

Applying Zymol with your fingers/hands is quite cool too. Mmm.
