Trip to the ring

Post by pablo »

Been chatting to Alan about taking a trip back to the ring. We're not talking about this year or even next year but we definately plan to go back. This time though we will trailer the car as there's no way i'd drive the 800 miles in that car.

Would be a right laugh if we could get a few of us together :driving: ....Road Trip :driving:

I'm up for this, the last trip that was scheduled for late 2008 didn't go as planned so it would be good to eventually put it to bed (or into the Armco more likely) :driving:

So a hypothetical trip in three years time? :grouphug: ;)

If I did go back it would only be for a 'proper' trackday as opposed to a touristfahren day. The risks of the former far outweigh the expense of the latter. I'd prefer to go to places I haven't driven first though, namely Spa on the continent or Anglesey over here.

Only my grumpy two penneth

Agree with Stu, the Nurburgring was an epic place but I think going back now with all that tourist stuff and the packed track it wouldn't have the same feel as when you went before Pabs. Deffo agree that Spa would be on the list to visit or even a road trip to say Stelvio pass etc.

Planning on doing the Circuit days TD at spa in September. Was going to do the ring this year but various people said I'd get more out of learning the circuit in a road car first, using ring4rent for example.

So I'm either going to do that or poss one of the actual courses where they teach you it in sections (like playstation licences  ). I've read about 2, one is run by BMW and you do it in M3s but there was one in the sunday paper the other day in an Astra VXR. Was £1600 for 2 days which didn't sound bad value to me for car, instruction and track for 2 days.

We did the Circuit Days Nurburgring Cannonball (as it was called back then). The briefing was at Brands Hatch and as soon as he said the ferry leaves at 10.00 see you in Germany everyone was off running out to their cars. To say it was crazy when we got to dover I took more money out the cash machine (in case of fines).

That spa one looks good value my only concern there is petrol as when we went to the ring a lot of people advised us not to fill up in Belgium due to the poor quality of the petrol.

Whats the ruelling around carrying jerry cans of petrol on the Euro Tunnel?

yeah I was looking at their organised trip to the ring, looks good.

Not sure, I assume you can take jerry cans if you can take gas for caravans but never really thought about it. I wouldn't worry about that too much pabs, take some jerry cans, and some octane booster for when you need to use the local motion lotion
