I have spent the day there with some of my new colleagues from Aviva (Norwich Union)
What a giggle. Essentially, we were there to be assessed on our individual strengths and weaknesses across a broad range of problem solving and physical challenges. The participants would each take a turn leading an exercise and the assessors (4 in total, 2 from Aviva and 2 from the centre) were the observing our actions, the roles that we played and obviously what we were good and bad at, and the subsequent areas of development.
This was all wrapped up in larking around on assault courses, collaboratively solving fiendish Crystal Maze style puzzles and even a spot of archery. By the way, I am officially awesome with a bow and arrow (must have been all of the Call of Duty)

I guess the reason for this post is simple. If you get the opportunity to take part in this sort of thing (they also do team building) make every effort to do so. It is so rewarding, huge fun and the feedback (I am assured) is amongst the most powerful and insightful that you can receive. I'll find out in a few days as to how I got on and where I need to develop my skills. If you are an employer or Director looking for an excellent way of assessing staff (existing or candidates for a new role) or improving teams, I can think of no better way of doing it.
Anyone at Aviva reading this; get involved! You will love it.
