V8 Supercars (Drive em in the UK .. almost)
Sorry, missed this post. Can't guarantee i'd be working on the day you come or if so, may not be on V8s. If you drop me a PM when you know you are coming I can find out and even if not on V8s I can "av a word" and maybe get you a couple of extra laps.drifter wrote:Nice one, a phonecall from the old dear will be incomingYou available as the instructor then Max?

Just a little update to say this was awesome fun
Slightly different procedure as before when I've been, but it still consists of a simple briefing on what you need to know about cornering. After that, it's straight into a Mini Cooper S driven by a pro so you get a sighting lap. I was lucky to be in the one of the first cars so I had no wait for the V8
It was a bit strange getting in the wrong side of the car, but soon got used to it. The instructor buckles you in for H & S reasons and small wait for him to sort his own seat out. I'm almost high on petrol fumes by now  Quick run through what was what and he fired the beast up and away we went. Gear change was a bit erratic to start with, getting first instead of third at the first corner but no problems until later. As Maxx said, they assess your capabilities and decide how much to push you. After a few laps he tells me stop braking on certain corners. I have to say, they didn't seem that fast in a straight line, but fuck me do they go round the corners. Really pushed it a bit from then on, while giving it full beans down the straight he tells me he's lost count of the laps...and I get 2nd instead of 4th  Two more laps and we had to go in, probably 9-10 in the end. Pulling in was the only time I punched the door going for the gear change
Great day, managed to overtake any Porcshe, Ferrari, Lambo, other V8's that came in the way. Same as driving the Minis tbh, you just catch them alot quicker  The instructor shook my hand and said I was the BEST he'd had all day, and my session was right at the end
Maybe he says that to everyone, but at least he seemed completely relaxed and happy to push it

Scott,
Sorry I missed you. I had asked a few weeks ago to be put on V8s that day but in the end I had to do skid-car as they were short of qualified guys to do it. I wonder if you had Wayne, he's about the mosty relaxed and often gives a few more laps, aussie accent? or maybe Pete? We never really criticise anyone and often say a person did well even if they were pretty average but no-one i know would say your best of the day without it being true, so sounds like you did a good job. I generally don't bother taking people into 4th, even though a torquey V8 it's power doesn't come in fully until about 5,000revs, it's as noticable if not more so than a VTEC.
Anyway, really glad you had a good day.

No problem Maxx, I did keep a look out for you
I think I had Pete, ended up in the Green car which he implied was 'his' if you know what I mean. Hopefully I will have a few photos soon to post up
Pretty much kept in 4th around the first corner, through the chicane, next right and the long sweeping right, down to third for the tight right hander. Back into 4th around the really long left hander, down into 3rd for the last one
