Best to reserve judgement until you've driven it on something other than overheated F1's, although once you've got better grip it'll be working the suspension harder. Good alignment and an adjustable thicker rear bar can be effective without costing too much.

Am looking to make my first trip out there next year, and get my Impreza (v6 RA Lim) dialed in on 'ordinary' trackdays this year.

Andy,

I appreciate the comments, tyres may be significant.

Alignment was recently done by Zak at Mocom, and I've got 22mm front ARB and 25mm rear. I'm actually changing the rear bar back to a 22 as the 25 lifts the inside rear too much reducing drive out of corners.

I think the next step forward would be adjustable top mounts and increased caster. But that is a much bigger step cost wise, as they would sit best on top of coilovers.

Great write up, I'm hoping to get out there some time in the new year again, it's been nearly 2 months since I was there last!! Must go again!

Yup, and with coilovers you've to be careful not to lose road usability. Exe-tc's are supposed to span that road-track divide rather well (and I'm looking forward to a ride in Duncan's car at some point to sample that) but cost

That was the slippery slope I was talking about! It's easy to get caught up in having the car just right, when the price of coilovers would fund another Ring trip. Would be great to get out there again before Autumn!

Exe-tc coilovers are incredible - buy anything else and you will regret the compromised handling on either road or track and ultimately want to change them or tire of driving the car.

What's that based on Duncan? Yours had standard suspension before the exe-tc's didn't it? Do you have laptimes to compare against, say, John Felstead on his KW v3's?

Am genuinely interested in exe-tc's, but have yet to see any technical info in the various discussions of them. Do they quote stiction measurements for example?

Cost-wise they're no different from high quality bike items, although with the latter you have only one to buy and it comes with a yellow 'Ohlins' label!

Pop up and have a ride in the car.

Laptimes would be meaningless as the suspension is only part of the equation, if you want outright lap times then a rock solid set would probably be best, but they would be appalling on the road.
