2008 Pro / Street Class Drag Series at Shakespeare

2008 Pro Street Drag Series

There are to be a raft of changes implemented in next years running of the
Jap Racer series at Stratford-upon-Avon's Shakespeare County Raceway. These
include changes to the series identity, addition of timed bracket classes
and top ten run-offs, and an overall simplified point's structure to the
season.



To be re-branded as the Pro Street Drag Series, administration of the five
round series is to be conducted between Shakespeare County Raceway and
seasoned racers keith Cowie, Mick Begley and Steve Guirey; winner of the Jap
Racer Unlimited class in 2007.



To be run exclusively at the Warwickshire venue events are expected to begin
with two day weekends in April (Practice Saturday, Time Trials Sunday) and
run right through the year until the season ending shootout mid October.



The main objective of the series is to run affordable timed bracket classes
for imported Japanese and European manufactured oem road legal vehicles with
current MOT & Tax, full working oem dashboard, lights,but on radial tyres.
Wrinkle wall DOT tyres and full racing slicks can not be used but will only
be permitted in the Pro class.



Classes will range from 13.3 seconds to 12.3, 12.3 to 11.3 and so on until
the real quick class; 9.3 seconds and beyond! Any vehicle running quicker
than 9.3 will automatically move into the Pro class and must be fitted with
an approved road cage. Any blended racing on forecourt pumped fuel will
be allowed including nitrous.



It is anticipated that there will be a Top Ten Shootout featuring the
quickest two cars from each class which should make exceptional viewing for
spectators to the series.



Since the release of the series official forum

series has already gained a lot of attention from prospective drivers as
well as receiving sponsorship interest from such note able companies as
MPB Structures Ltd, Motorshack, VP Racing Fuels and Japanese Performance magazine.

Sounds like it has the potential to be a hell of a series Keith. I'm sure they'll be a few of 'our' guys very interested in this.

Does the site have the full regulations listed?

Hi Stuart

Here are the rules they are simple and fair

Street cars
All cars must be road legal with a full oem working dashboard, lights and the exhaust system must exit the car in the std place when it left the factory.
All cars must have a valid Mot & Tax. If not they will be asked to run in the Pro class.

Pro cars - 9.3 sec and faster
Are open to any mods but must not be Tube cars or have Tubbed rear ends.
Every car will be checked on the day to make sure that the cars are safe before they get to run.

Fuel Anything goes inc Nos (all classes)

Cars running faster than 100 mph must wear a crash helmet.

Cars running faster than 150 mph must wear a crash helmet, race suit, neck brace and full race harness.

Cars running faster than 9.8 sec must be fitted with a roll cage.

Also in the shootout at the end of each round the 2 fastest cars from each class will race to see who is the event winner please read below.

ET Bracket Racing is a handicap race which gives the slower vehicle a head start. The difference between vehicle A starting first before vehicle B is determined by the difference of dial-in times by which each driver/rider writes his ET on the rear of the vehicle providing it is within the times of his particular bracket.

What we want is to see the guys with the slower cars having as much chance of winning the event as the guys with the big sponsors.

You could maybe see a 13 sec car running against a 8 sec car and maybe kicking its arse.

Never actually been to shakey how much does the surface differ to the pod?

I prefer it too :!:

Spent a weekend up there for Mod Nats a few years back and managed to do 30+ runs in that weekend
Consistantly hitting 15.5 and 15.6 in a sohc civic, ok i bettered my pb time @ pod but shakespeare seems a better track for less breakages :roll:

Just to let everyone know that the cut off for entering round one of this new pro street series will be Friday 18th at 12pm.

Anyone wanting to run has to be a member on the forum and has to have a race number.

If you turn up on the day you will not get to run.
