From how I understand it. The scammer says he's going to send more than the asking price i.e. inc. shipping of a few hundred. He want you to pay the cheque into your bank and when cleared, pay him, or third party, say shipper, the difference.

All looks good and you pay the money to whoever. A few weeks pass by and your bank discovers that the Nigerian, or whatever, cheque/money order is a dud and THEN refunds themselves from your account. Bingo, you've been done.

Recentle however, the law has changed and the bank has to honour the transaction whether they're out of pocket or not. Can't remember what the new time limit is but it's now days rather than months.

If the scam's in your favour, go for it. But make sure that the above is 100% first :D

Even with Direct bank transfer they can still get it back i believe as they can claim fraud (dont quote me on that though things have changed since i worked in a bank)
Highly unlikely they would want to claim the money back on a bank transfer as that then identifies them, making them easier to nab!!
The idea with the bankers draft scam is complete anonimity on their part which makes them just about impossible to trace!!

Dodgy bankers draft is a no brainer from their point of view :)
Buggers cancelled my op just a couple of days before it was due. Inconsiderate barstewards!!

Gerry is right - my mate steve played along with one of these - he paid the cheque into a spare account - he was credited .. and low and behold after a couple of weeks the cheque was discovered to be fraudalent and the funds removed.

Thus you send you shiny motorcar thinking you've got money in the bank - by the time it bounces your car is on it's way and you've lost out.

Dunk, as you say it is a Punto. You should have no problem selling it as it is a clean one.
Just ignore all the dodgy enquiries from the scammers and a legit buyer will be along soon. Not worth the hassle.
I put a wanted post on Pistonheads the other day and within a day someone sent a mail saying that they had exactly what i wanted. The mail read in such a way that it was obviouly a standard formatted reply to wanted posts.
