This recent incident and subsequent death during the Gumball 3000, and the subsequent appaulling actions of the participants involved has given me cause for concern.

Last year myself and Alan (Bart), booked on to what was originally called the Nurburg Cannonball, now known as the N700. It starts at Brands Hatch driving to the ring and 2 days driving the ring and then back. We are both fans of the original movie, so to us this was a once in a lifetime opportunity to say we we're a part of something such as that.

The reason we booked onto this event is that the focus is on the 2 days driving the ring and not how fast you can get there. I have been driving for over 20 years and the majority of those in performance cars of one type or another and I have a clean license.

We signed on to this before we came to BigPower, so it was an avenue and opportunity for us to go to the ring with other like minded people. Now as an active member of BigPower I do not feel that it is appropriate for us to be seen to be supporting or participating in events such as this.
We will still be participating in this years N700, but will be removing all BigPower stickers prior to the event.

The last thing that we want to do, is to tarnish the reputation of this fantastic club because of a prior commitment that we made.

What a terrible accident and a terrible way the guys have dealt with it.

If i was ever in the postion to take part in the Gumball rally i most certainly would have done but i would never drive beyond my limits or in the way that those guys do in the video posted by pc185. That is just crazy and probably exactly what was going on to cause this crash but who knows.

Such a shame it has ended like this.

Pablo~
Two things I would comment on there regarding your post.

Firstly, whilst I am sincerely flattered that you would go to such lengths to protect the club, I feel you may be worrying about nothing. Your conduct as individuals says far more about you than any stickers that may or may not be on the car.
Secondly, you should embrace the opportunity to do this. I am sure that any organised road trip will be far more clearly defined in terms of terms and conditions from here on in. This will provide a framework for all participants to enjoy the experience within the law of the land so that you can get to the Nordschleife and really have some fun.

The temptation is for people to think 'what the hell?' and give it some beans when they see or hear others doing the same. This domino effect will inevitably end in tears. None of us are immune from these temptations, but if ever there was a good example of why our cars are better pushed hard in a safe environment, this was it.

Its hard for me to comment really,

I know the dangers of excessive driving, and I am a regular user of internet forums such as this where any memory lapse of those dangers is often brought back into focus with these headlines and videos. However I am honest enough to admit that I have done similar in the past, and on occasion (although getting less often - honest :D) still drive like a cnut now. I hope when Im grown up a bit more I will behave more responsibly still and just keep it to the track but I cant really say hand on heart that if I were in the GT3 in Bratislava with some pals and we were all hooning across europe on the Gumball that it wouldnt be me down there in the photo and in the news and in a way thats very scary. Its such a simple quick decision to put your foot down and then "whack" you're in trouble. I realise there are alot more sensible people than me on this forum and its a good thing, but sometimes I think people can over sterilise themselves and the situation from the comfort of their chair behind their keyboard and forget that we are human too underneath and prone to weakness.

Im not having a go, just saying that I think the finger pointing and "shame on them" comments are sometimes not needed - just a simple "What a pathetic waste of a life in unfortunate circumstances"

I have issues !!! :ack2:....I used to be average, now I reminisce !!!

But I think we know that in those circumstances none of us would leave the accident and not stay until to help (assuming they did not, which is how I read things).

The drivers will have to live with their own conscience..
