650hp RS6 (5.5 hours)

Post by Stuart »

I was asked to check over this newly purchased estate for a guy that I've known for many years, and we eventually 'hooked up'. He's a serial fast car owner and gone back to fast tourers as opposed to Lambo's and Ferraris'...........and you certainly don't get much faster than a tuned RS6 if you need space with pace!

The car was bought as a trade deal and subsequently the paint was flat and lifeless, let alone unprotected. We had a limited period of time to get the work completed and the weather was pony on the day so photos were limited.

Before I started

Wheels are due for a refurb so he wasn't overly worried about how well they came out. Hopefully you can see from this photo that the paint lacks oompth; no real gloss or reflectivity

The exhaust cannons looking the worse for wear and not surprising. They do have a V10 twin turbo throwing quite a lot of coal at them!

Things like the fuel filler caps always tell me a lot about how the car has been cared for. Or not (from an aesthetic POV)

Afters

The owner had pretty much said "Use your discretion" but I also had it firmly in my mind that he'd been understandably critical of how it was prepared for him at the point of collection, so I really had to push hard to get to a level of results I judged he'd be happy with in the time we had.

Fuel flap after cleaning. This was a must for me, as he'll be filling the car up all the time with that power level

Exhausts were hand polished with a two stage system; the first cuts and cleans, whilst the second stage heightens the shine and protects
Image

The paintwork was deep cleaned*, machine polished and then sealed for protection

A photo to demonstrate the gloss levels and also show off those distended arches

*Paint work 'deep clean' consists of
-Pre-contact soak in a shampoo/snowfoam +APC mix and allowed to dwell
-HIgh pressure rinse
-Two bucket wash with grit guards and mitts
-All panel gaps, grilles and light surrounds cleaned with APC + shampoo mmix using a detail brush, tooth picks and cotton buds
-Rinse
-Bugs removed
-Rinse
-Tar removed
-Rinse
-Iron fallout removed
-Rinse
-Clay bar for all paint
-Rewashed
-Rinse and dried

Once again the weather closed in towards the end of the day so the photos don't really do the car justice. The owner tells me that there are two friends of his that he wants me to work with, and as they both own 911 GT3's, I'll be sure to feature their cars in the coming weeks

Comments and questions welcomed as always. Bookings for the next 6-8 weeks are extremely 'healthy' so if you want your car given some close attention please call or email and I'll be delighted to help :)
