Spent countless hours as a kid playing these...

I never quite got on with Wipeout, but it's influence (particularily with in-game soundtracks and how it opened up games to a wider and more mature audience) is still apparent with modern games-RobCallow wrote:How about Road Rash or mega-lo-mania on Megadrive and Ridge Racer and Wipeout on Ps1 or Sensible Soccer on the Amiga 500 (did anyone play the ww2 version with a grenade as the ball?)

Moving on to the Sega Saturn...

With Sega's arcade machines now dropping the traditional 2-D side-scrolling for funky polygons, another golden age arrived- particularily with racing games. With the Saturn being their current next-gen console, it was to receive plenty of arcade to home conversions. Unfortunately, it wasn't quite upto the job in many cases.
Daytona was the first, and in being so, was rushed and terribly unoptimised for the hardware. The transfer from the U.S. NTSC standard to the UK PAL was shocking- a choppy framerate and thick black borders top and bottom of the screen ruined it for many

They later released Daytona USA: Championship Circuit Edition which improved the graphics slightly and added a number of tracks to the original three, but totally cocked-up the handling.

Apparently Sega are releasing a version for Xbox Live Arcade at the end of this month.

And now, the game which took up months (if not years) of my life, a game which many believe to define the perfect handling for a rally game. If this comes to XBLA, I'll forget Forza 4 exists. Trev mentioned it earlier...
