I have always loved the sound of these since hearing about them years ago, mainly due to the designers focusing on driver involvement rather than numbers. So much so I keep toying with the idea of getting one once the prices come down, I even signed up to their marketing mail for it! If it was my money I would go for the BRZ as I prefer the way it looks even though the differences are very subtle.
Chris Harris did a review of the GT86 if anyones interested....

What's your opinion on these GT86/BRZ/FRS?
Really enjoyed that Dom, great video mate.
The Porsche was deffo a good buy but then Bilstein suspension, the exhaust etc would have been quite a few k extra and missing the 5 year warranty. However I reckon once the boom with the GT86/BRZ disappears they wont hold values well just like any other Jap performance motor really (bar an LFA obviously!), even the GTRs are out there for 30-35k with ridiculously low mileages.
Plus it doesnt quite have the kudos of the Porsche or even an M3 of which you could buy an e46 for a heck of a lot less and still have money to buy spares etc.
It did look fun though and 'squirmy' and I quite like the interior but just hard to justify the 25-30k asking price with the rivals
Thats not to say in a few years time when the prices drop to around 10k they wont be a good buy then.

You're right, one of my regrets when I had my 350z was buying towards the top end of the market as I lost alot of money in a short space of time. So much so it makes me shudder to think about it. If I had bought an older Poker I wouldnt have lost so much. Live and learn huh!
I just need a time machine so I can pickup a cheap GT86!

Interesting to see the way this thread has developed, the opinions of people and the 'brand' buy in
