Serious Crash Britcar 24Hr 2011 - Marshal Injured
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'd held off posting this publicaly as a marshal was seriously injured in this incident. Since it has occured I have kept updated on his condition and i'm happy to say he is now receovering well (he had a double leg fracture).
I have also sought advice from the marshaling community in general as to whether this video should be posted at all as I did not want to cause any distress to the injured marshal, his team or the marshalling community in general. The consensus was that after a period of time it should be posted.
All correct procedures were followed and it was just a freak incident. It does show the danger that these guys put themselves in though in order for us to race.
I know there are probably not a lot of racers on here but if you wish to show your appreciation for the work the marshals do please click [Like].
Thanks
Maxx
My God that was scary! Very professional Maxx; your years of experience always impress whether it's the driving, the presentation or even in instances like that (i.e. when the shit hits the fan) The amount of speed that Porsche (looked like a 911) carried through the gravel was horrendous, and I'm amazed that the marshall wasn't more seriously injured.
Amazing guys doing an often thankless task.
That was a scarey incident and makes you realise who the unsung heros are of motorsport really are. Glad to hear that he is making a recovery.
i know im going to get a MASSIVE shot down for this but........
i have watched the replay of this a dozen times now and these are just my
own personal thoughts.
it looks to be that after the marchell blows the whistle the guy in frame is watching
the car to see what direction it is going to take ie left, right or head on to
the car but it looks like as he is about to go to the left the other marshell
pulls him back rightfully so as he is looking to save a friend/college so i am
not putting a blame anywere but its all a case of what if at the end of the
day.
as mentioned without the marshells we would not be able to do what we
love to do, i have a customer at work who is a marshell and we have chats
all the time and for what he does i sort him out a few extras at work.
