Rosssport's Evo VI "Sylvia"

Ok, technically not owned by myself or Gary, but seeing as we're so closely tied-into it I thought Ross' infamous 6 deserved it's own BP Project thread. :D

Alterations over the years have been relatively minor, but transmission/drivetrain issues after last year's MLR 30-130 made Ross decide to (hopefully) banish the problem forever. The cause was the difference in the transfer box/subframe arrangement between the earlier 4-6 and later 7-9 Evo's, namely the former having a weaker transfer box and sitting below the front bed.

Fitting the later transfer box to the engine is no trouble at all, being the same bolt pattern- the problem is what to do with the subframe and chassis to accomodate it. So off the car went to Momentum in Ireland for the centre section of the subframe to be modified and the floor reshaped-

Gearbox internals were replaced with PPG 4-speed drag ratio's and diff, plus a standard 5th, which were cryo and ISF treated to take the strain better-

Engine and 'box ready to go back in for TOTB last year, where Ross came 3rd in the drag section with a 9.55 quarter @ 155mph and a gentle 185mph standing kilometre with the weak 5th gear-

Now 30-130 is coming round again, Ross is keen to finally nail a decent time with no fluffed gearchanges (his record was set with only 3 1/2 cylinders after buzzing the engine on a downshift at speed and firing a rocker out of the head). This means the VI is going through a bit of weight loss, along with some power tweaks. ;)

Firstly a new FIA carbon seat-

Secondly, a slightly bigger turbo. Last year he went for a hybrid GT37, which weirdly Ross found to be much more brutal than the GTX94 he set the record with. So where do you go from there?

Bigger still..!

Along with the position of the dry sump pump, this presented a bit of a 'packaging' problem. But Ross has a solution-

With all the grief with trying to get Ross' 6 to grip the dyno and produce meaningful numbers over the years, Gary decided that eliminating the wheel slip issue was the simplest answer. After chatting to Abbey Motorsport over a few beers at the Autosport show earlier in the year, the offer was made in using their hub dyno for the mapping session. So after getting the basic set-up sorted on our dyno last night (apologies to the neighbourhood), Gary and Ross trundled down south today and bolted the car in.

Ross has also opted to try an air-powered shifter and see how things go. He's never had full confidence in being brutal enough with the Ikeya, which has often caused mis-shifts/false neutrals and slowed the ultimate pace of the car. Some test footage (click to play)-
