Hi Andy The Birkett Relay Race is a lot of fun :) Andy (ESL) has competed twice, when it used to be run up at Snetterton, although it is held at Silverstone these days. I think we managed a class win on one of those years? The racing members of Harrow Car Club put together a team from the club membe...

Ooops sorry I didn't answer all of your original questions! Abingdon is an interesting option - a big event as well. My main concern about Abingdon is that it fills up so quickly - one year the entry was filled within 2 weeks of the regs being available! I did discuss with the organisers about the p...

Just to explain the HCC / JISC connection! The MSA requires championships to be organised by clubs with experience of the events - so only a handful of clubs in the South of England are eligible to organise such a championship, of which HCC is one (of many). Being the competition secretary I have th...

Logan, Any help in promoting the JISC would be very much appreciated! Generally the costs are quite low in running the championship so sponsorship isn't essential; although nicer tin ware for the awards night for a name swap is always an option. We have to tread carefully because that can be offset ...

Open Discussion - finalising JISC 2008
Hi everyone, firstly thanks to Duncan and Stuart for hosting this forum and sorry I haven't been around much of late! I haven't submitted the final rules and calendar to the MSA yet so there are some opportunities for last minute changes. Of course all final decisions rest with the organiser (i.e. m...

Just to add to what Andy said about the limitations of the Thorney tests: Those tests were carried out on standard cars. But, standard cars (even with closed loop knock control) have limited authority to advance the ignition. Manufacturers put in closed loop knock control so that if you get a batch ...

Pah, if you were a true racer, you'd just run a wire straight from battery +12V to the ECU  :o That said, most racers do have extinguishers close to hand for when the wire melts and sets fire to everything... On reflection, probably best not to do that  hope you can get it fixed for the w...

Cats required for some MSA categories from 2009
Hat tip to Etheridge-Bird over on scoobynet for being more on the ball than me  New MSA regulation for 2009: "Regulation E12.16.7: Exhaust catalytic converters must be fitted to all production based touring, saloon and sports cars, including specialist production and kit cars, manufactured aft...

More than happy for someone else to do all the work in setting up a race championship :) They would probably have a different vision - I liked the idea of race grids of rice rockets all using air restrictors to around 250-350bhp (depending on weight). I figured that should keep costs down but give s...
