I would say that the fuel usage of my STi is about on a par with my old Civic Type R when commuting. With the Subaru you *know* why the fuel is disappearing, I could never understand how a modern 2litre engine in a Civic could drink that much. Not yet at least.
Mine has replaced every aspect of the Nissan - noteably sat in the driveway motionless for months at a time :D The difference is that the Subaru remains in a working state.
